Our family has been coming to this island for over 25 years. About 4 miles long, most short-term visitors come without a car, and the pace is slow. Although you're bound to be content relaxing on our porch with its ocean view, going for walks, or looking for sea glass, the island also has a library, small market, and in summer, historical society museum, inn, pub, gift shop, recreation department with pool, small golf course. There is a car at the house you can use (old Ford wagon w/ stick shift). The house has wifi but it's sketchy at times.
Chebeague Island can be reached using either the Casco Bay Lines ferry from downtown Portland, or the Chebeague Island Transportation Co. ferry from Cousins Island (satellite parking on Rt.1, Cumberland). The ferries are very different from each other: see links below.
